Bow-Ties vs the World 2015 Offering of Proceeds

Seen here is Club President Roy Marko delivering the proceeds of this year's Bow-Ties vs the World event to the Kids with Cancer Society's Val Figliuzzi.  The 567 Chevy club raised $2700 back in August in what was an excellent Show & Shine.

Thank you once again to everyone who participated, donated, sponsored and/or worked the event.

CIBC Run for the Cure

The following comes in from Glen Trafanenko:

If I told you that breast cancer was the most common cancer affecting women over the age of 20 in Canada, I’m sure you’d be as shocked as I was. Startlingly, an estimated 67 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every day! But thanks to funds raised by people like you, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation supports research, education, and awareness programs across Canada that have led to significant improvements in life-expectancy and long-term health.
Please help me in supporting the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure which I am going to participate in the run on October 5th in Red Deer in memory of my Auntie Vicky Trefanenko.

Please donate money on behalf of me and the rest of our team from Strive Dance Academy in Red Deer. I have set my fundraising goal of $1,000 for myself and I am writing to ask for your support.
Your donation will help the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation continue funding break-through innovations and technologies, like engineering cancer-killing designer viruses and harnessing the power of the immune system or testing a safe and existing drug for a new use in breast cancer treatment. Every breakthrough in research brings us closer to our goal of a future without this disease.
And it all starts with your donation.
You can easily make a donation by visiting my personal page on the CIBC Run for the Cure website. Please see the "sponsor me" link below. All it takes is a donation of $20, $50, or $100 to help me reach my goal and help create a future without breast cancer.

Thanks,
Glen Trefanenko

Meeting Minutes for September 2015

The Edmonton & Area 567 club September Meeting Minutes
Start @ 7 p.m 12 Members present

The August meeting Minutes were read & accepted by all present..
The treasurer’s Report was given & the account OK ….

The cheque donation to Kids with Cancer was passed and will be presented to them real soon.. All event costs are paid for & all sponsors have come through.

The discussion for the 2016 event was opened. What seems like the way we will go for next year is a 50/50 proceed donation split between Kids with Cancer and another Public Charity.. More discussions to follow on this concept.

The Pros & Cons on the Bowties vs the World Show N shine were discussed, with lots of good ideas brought forth.. One issue was the ballot “pails” & ballots themselves, it will be taken care of for 2016 event… Membership participation is the Key to making it a success… It was not there for this year!

The event T-shirts were a good sell but there are 37 left out of 100 produced.. If anyone wants one, contact Jim.. They sell @ $20.00 each.

We will have a spot at the Swap meet in Red Deer on Oct.10th. We will sell Event T-shirts & see how the response is on our New Club Shirts , as we will offer some to the General public. Their cost is $20.00 each.. Nice T-shirts !1 Contact Jim if you want one.

The club calendar topic was brought forward & a motion from all was to go with the idea.. The club will cover the cost of 100 “Poster type” calendars featuring some members' “rides” and the Sponsors & Supporters of our past event listed on the calendar.. We need to set up a Photo day for this calendar ASAP. Stay Tuned!!!

Don C. suggested that the club cover Jim’s costs  for all that he has done for the past few months, what with setting up this year’s event & other club activities.. Jim was really “taken away” by this and only said to the present members that their motive was too nice/ too much, But only accepted to take a partial and only after further discussion with the members present.

Back to the event we had 168 Paid entries and if more came in, the room for them was Questionable.. There was an issue with one store owner but it was taken care of.. Possible new ( larger) location for next year to be looked at but event exposure & general public access is key.. Plus members' assistance !!

***The club requires a large number of members and their vehicles for September 12 at the hangar on Kingsway, The Edmonton Motors Folks are celebrating their 90th anniversary & have invited us to be there.. The Hours are 1 -5 pm.. We have 5 committed, But need a few more.. Require a couple of 56 & 57’s for sure.. Contact Jim , he needs to provide the Edmonton Motor group with a “head count”.. A e-mail will be sent to all members about this event.. They have donated close to $350.00 in “swag” for our past event, WE should patronize these Guys!!! They are interested in being a sponsor for next year too…

The Website had over 4000 “hits” in August, August 30th had over 1500, possible to see the results for the Aug.29 the event but Jim had not completed them so they can be entered onto the site.. They are NOW!!

The Entrants cash draw was not made on Saturday, so we had it at tonight's meeting, Mr. Brian Pullishy was the cash draw winner.. A cheque will be mailed to him ASAP! The value is $168.00 , CONGRATS !!!

Keith G. has suggested and this was accepted by all present to remove the Pictures off the member’s site, of those who have not renwed their memberships .. To be done as soon as our Web “guru” can do it..

The 50/50 winner was Dougie J and Armand L. won a “MATCO Tools” coffee Mug & Bernie M. won a Meguires car care Kit..
Next meeting , October 7th,2015 at 7 p.m. The Airways Inn ( Drillers Lounge)

Canada Day Daysland Show & Shine (July 1, 2015 w/ pics)

Special thanks to the "usual suspects " of the 567 club for coming out and
helping to make our Canada Day celebrations in Daysland a success. A lot of
positive feedback was attained from the show portion, with one entry from
Three Hills.

Eaux Claires Extended Care Car Show (July 13, 2015)

Eaux Claires Extended Care, is having a car show from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on  Monday, July 13th. (Rain date is July 14 – same time)  Location is
16503 – 95 St.

Former 5-6-7- member Phil Young is a resident of this facility, since suffering a stroke approx. 7 years ago.  Phil owned a 57 two door hardtop, & still loves the Tri- Fives.
I understand the Antique Car Club will be present.  Let’s get a decent showing of Tri-Fives & help lift the spirits of the residents, including Phil.

Alberta Railway Museum Tour (June 19th w/ pics)

On June 19th, some members accepted the invite to be at the 60th Anniversary show at the Alberta Railway Museum, We were very well treated by the good people at the museum, There are lots to see at this great place, and you even get to ride in a rail car pulled by a 1947 locomotive!!  This is truly a “hidden Gem” in our city, a place that everyone should visit. Sadly, weather forced a number of members to withdraw from their major 60th anniversary event (of the modern streamliner trains) that weekend.

Many thanks to Kevin, Stephen, Herb & Irene & the rest of the gang at the Alberta Railway Museum.. Here are just a few pics of our tour.

This Weekends events at Touchmark and the Alberta Railway Museum have been CANCELLED

Hey everybody – due to weather related concerns – the Car Show portion of tonights event at the Touchmark Seniors home has been postponed.  The sock hop portion is, as far as we know, is resuming as planned – but a makeup date for the Car Show will be discussed at next month’s meeting.

UPDATE (Saturday) - Due to last nights storm – I’ve been informed that the club will not be appearing at today’s event at the Alberta Railway Museum due to potential risk of damage to the vehicles on the mudroad.  Plans for a makeup event, perhaps a cruise, will be discussed soon.

Officially - the Railway Museum event is still going on, but for safety reasons; club participation is at your own risk.  It's a great event for a great cause but it's hosted on unpaved ground which means heavy risk of damage from mud and gravel.  If you do attend - be safe out there and take pictures.

If you require more information – call Jim K

Meeting Minutes for April 2015

The Edmonton & area 567 club April meeting minutes

April 1st @ the Airways motor Inn   7:15p.m with 8 members present

Opening minutes of the march meeting was read buy Roy M & was accepted by all members present

Treasures report was given and accepted by members

We discussed the Red deer March swap meet, and how it went. got positive feedback. We also talked about the upcoming draton vally swap meet that the club is attending; we talked about a first annual capital region swap meet in stony plain, also in April. We talked about how it’s a core group doing the events, if we wanted to do the stony plain meet, someone else in the club would have to make the effort to go. No one in attendance volunteered so we may not attend the stony plain swap meet.

We talked about how the presentation with Roger Silcox (Amsiol Rep). club members that attended felt it was informative, we thought that 12 members was a low turnout for such good information. Was brought to attention by Don C, that we only have 19 paid members so far for 2015 so not to bad all things considered noted that there are more members to come.

We also have an account with Amsiol sponsored by Roger Silcox to buy the product at 20% of retail cost. We will have the account info for the may meeting.

Roy M, had said he has not herd anything about the indoor car @ the Expo center show we attended last year.

Some info on porta-potties, kids with cancer tour, and KMS tools sponsorship to be brought to the meeting by Jim K. Jim K was not at the meeting so the info will be brought to the May meeting.
Don C, had brought info that Blitz Krieg Kustoms, 6107-46st Leduc, is willing to have us for a shop tour. It was decided by the members that we will have it on the Saturday May 9th after our May 6th meeting also the club will supply food. Don C, will confirm at the may meeting.

Roy M still has to see the Shelby shop tour. Will update at May meeting

Brian C had brought up the idea of 60th anniversary t-shirts for 1955. he has lots of ideas, so we as a membership voted that Brian C, to look in to pricing on art and shirts. He should have a full report for us at the May meeting. Thank you Brian for stepping up

Jean B, had brought up that the ESRA had got a tool chest donated from NAPA that has a Chevy theme he had said we should look into getting one for the club as a prize maybe future raffle.

Was asked by Jean B, during swap and shop,  someone he know was looking for a 1957 2-door post, info was past to Brian C, he might sell his.
50/50 wines
Cash Prize - Roy M
Poster - Don C
Sticker - Jean B
Meeting ended @ 8:20pm Next meeting May 6th @ Airways Inn.

Thanks to Roy M, for these minutes…

Meeting Minutes for March 2015

The Edmonton & area 567 Club March Meeting Minutes
    March 4th @ the Airways motor Inn     7 p.m  with 12 members

Opening minutes of Feb. minutes were read by Roy M & accepted by those in attendance...  The Treasurer’s report was given by Jim K. and was well accepted by the members. All is ok!!

We had Mr. Roger Silcox from Amsoil hold his presentation on all the Amsoil products.. Q & A then followed, Roger is going to arrange to have the club on the preferred customer program & is available to all Edmonton & area 567 Club members (we should get approx. 20/25% off any product).. Those in attendance rec’d a product catalogue & info.

The club will be at Red Deer on March 20th and at Drayton Valley on April 18th ( at the curling club)

Bowties vs the World update
Jim has one sponsor ( Showtime Auto) as a paid sponsor already, for his awards. Jim has surveyed most of last year’s sponsors and they all have indicated that the extra $$ for the sponsor’s logos on the back of the shirts is a little too much because of the current economic situation..
Jim feels that the sponsorship commitment for the awards is more important than adding more $$ to the fee of the sponsors. This idea is closed by the membership, but if there is a sponsor who wants to buy the whole back of the event t-shirt.. WE can deal !!!
Ok was given to Jim to have 200 letter size hand-outs printed for the Red Deer swap meet plus two Extra large posters. To make some more for Drayton & Stoney Plain after the Red Deer week-end.. Club members voted in favour to cover the over nite stay at hotel covered for the swap meet volunteers..
Jim also ask those in attendance for ideas for the event to make it more appealing to attract more interest.. Come on Members help him out !!
The idea of using Porta-Potties at our event is questionable, the liability and costs are an issue. Jim to look into this concept and report back at April Meeting. There are washrooms located in the mall & at Chili’s Resturant to use however..

Jim to present  KMS tools with a Trailer sponsorship/advertising position. Will report back at the April meeting..
The “Kids with Cancer” house tour to be finalized by the April meeting.
Also a question was brought up about any upcoming indoor car shows at Northlands.. More to come.. TBA

50/50 winner- Arman L..   Amsoil products were won by Gene B & ???

Meeting ended @ 8:25 PM  Next meeting April 1st @ Airways Inn.

Thank to Bernie M for recording these minutes.

Meeting Minutes for January and February 2015

*apologies for the delay in minutes postings.  Below is a combination of both January and February meetings, as several key members could not attend the January meeting due to weather.

The Edmonton & Area 567 Club February general meeting
At The Airways Motor Inn in Nisku, Alberta 7 P.M
( This update newsletter will also have some meeting results from a January meeting that was held)

The minutes from Janaury were read with approx 14 members in attendance & were accepted.

Treasurer`s report was given with the balance after the Christmas supper payment ( still waiting for full payment from some members),

The club has made the decision that in future, any club Socials that occur must require the members to pay in full ( to avoid the problem that has risen) in advance… The club account is looking good as of the Feb. meeting

The Amsoil Rep. will be at our March meeting to discuss their products and address any questions that you may have..

New Business
Jim K. still to make arrangements to tour the `Kids with Cancer` House Details will be made when he makes the arrangements.
Roy.M. to have info on the New club T-Shirts & the school graphics dept. may produce them..
Upcoming swap meets were discussed, we will be at Red Deer in March and in Drayton Valley in April.. Plus maybe in Stoney Plain when it comes up..
Trailer sponsorship & advertising for 2015 was discussed, with a majority to be back, the yearly fee is only $100.00 per year..

Bowties vs the World update
A discussion on Porta-potties at the event was discussed, more to come on this topic.   The event poster has been done up (check the website) and there will colored flyers at all swap meets to hand out.. Also we will need a couple of added sponsors for two new classes if the membership decides to add these two classes.. Most Sponsors will be back to help us for this year..
The event is listed again in the 2015 Cruise Calandar , which should be avail.in March at Red Deer. We will grab a bunch of copies for our members..
With this being the 15th Anniversary of the event, a proposal was brought forth to sell sponsor`s logos on the back of the limited edition event t-shirt.. Jim to check out the possibilities and approach our sponsors on this idea, or the possibility to sale the back of our shirt to a lone sponsor. He will report back in March..
Jim was to be a guest at the Feb. CCHRA meeting to talk about our club and the Event, but due to his health issues, Jim was not able to attend.. Maybe at a later date..

Added new business
2015 is the 60th birthday of the Potent 55 Chevy, the club to mark this milestone, Any Ideas..

January meeting ended at 7:55 pm with the 50/50 draw. 50/50 winner-  Gene B.. Framed Pictures won – Brian C & Doug J.  Note: the framed pictures were given to us by a former Calgary 567member..
February 50/50 winner – Bernie M. & Framed pictures won by Shawn G and Doug J.
